HOW IT WORKS
TERMS
Washington Opportunity Fund provides loans of up to $500,000 to be repaid within 3 years. The fund charges 1 percent interest and does not require collateral. We make the application process simple and our leadership can make decisions within weeks.
CRITERIA
- The project must have significant ecological benefit.
- The land acquisition should be at a point where it is ready to close and the bridge loan funds are needed to complete the transaction.
- There needs to be a credible plan for repaying the loan.
- We prioritize loans to smaller land trusts who are trying to expand their scope of work and their appetite for risk.
In recent years Land trusts in the state of Washington have taken on the job of purchasing and stewarding environmentally sensitive lands. These groups work with community members to set priorities and raise funds, and there is often grant money available to help.
But often the threat of development is urgent and a local land trust knows where the needed funds will come from, but cannot get the cash in time to close. This is the need the Washington Opportunity Fund can meet by providing bridge loans.
Loans may be made to Land Trusts in Washington State which are 501c3 public charities as well as to federally recognized tribes.
