Chapman Cove

South Sound, WA

In December 2024 The Washington Opportunity Fund loaned the Capitol Land Trust $280,000 to make a strategic acquisition in Mason County, Washington.

This 29.9 acre purchase will permanently protect an important estuarine wetland, tidal salt marsh, freshwater emergent wetland, oyster beds and upland habitat in Oakland Bay.

The property also contains an important salmon creek that provides habitat for coho, fall chum and winter steelhead. Chapman Cove is the last major Oakland Bay estuary where the Capitol Land Trust had yet to establish a conservation foothold, making this a high priority for the land trust.
